Drive You Home - The Juliets

This band was love at first listen when I first heard them open for a pseudo-friends band a couple years ago very shortly after they had released their first album. I know I’ve posted tons of their stuff before, but this song just came on and it completely destroys me every time, for reasons I have no comprehension of. SORRY I FEEL THINGS

“Members of the Detroit band The Juliets claims listeners can hear the influences of Johannes Brahms and Dr. Dre in their arrangements on tracks such as “Rimbaud And Verlaine,” though it’s difficult to track down any N.W.A. songs about gay French poets…”

It makes me so happy to see The Juliets on the A.V. Club! They’re SO GOOD, and I miss not being in the Detroit-area and getting to see them play semi-regularly.

So bad interviewer aside, this band is amazing and one of my favorites. Because I no longer live in Michigan, I would really like to see these guys go big so they can do some national tours giving me the opportunity to see them again.  They put on an amazing live show and make some wonderful music.  Support them directly via Bandcamp! And if you happen to live in the Midwest, go to one of their shows—you won’t regret it.  They spend a lot of time in Michigan, but also seem to do lots of shows in Chicago, where I know I have at least a couple followers.

We are tremendously excited to announce that this Friday, January 7th, we’ll be playing at the Detroit Institute of Arts (right under the Diego Rivera mural)! We’ll be playing two sets, at 7PM and 8:30PM (each with a different group of songs). For more information visit the link above.

I will be going to this.  If you are in the greater detroit area, you have to go to this, too.  It’s for your own good.

Hey Chicago! See you TONIGHT! With Ornery Little Darlings and The Dirty Diamonds at Lincoln Hall.

Unfortunately I do not live in the Chicago area, but if you do, you should do yourself a favor and go go go!

Behold! It’s here! Our first music video for the first single off our first album (yes, a lot of firsts): This Just In, directed by the most wonderful Katie Barkel!

If you remember, a couple of days ago I posted a song by The Juliets and I said I would post more about them.  So here I am posting their official music video for a song off their debut album filmed at The Elbow Room in Ypsilanti, MI (which I guess is now called The Savoy…it has been too long since I’ve been out that way).  It’s a great song and a gorgeous video filled with some very fun dancing so you definitely need to watch it.

Okay guys, here’s the deal.  This band is amazing.  Like, seriously. And you have never heard of them, and that needs to change.  I would absolutely love to see these guys reach out to a wider audience, because they definitely deserve it.  They are a local band from Ypsilanti, Michigan (next to Ann Arbor) and they have just released their self-titled debut album which is available from bandcamp and it will be the best $9.99 you’ve spent in a long long time.  I think the best way to describe them is probably “chamber pop”…they have these really amazing orchestral arrangements with all the sensibilities of good ol’ fashioned pop music and I can tell you they absolutely do not sound like a ‘local band’ in that everything is very well arranged and has a real professionalism to it all.

Also, and this doesn’t hurt, they put on a really great live show and everyone in the band is pretty freaking adorable.

They Tumbl!
They’re on MySpace!

And I’m sure in the coming period of time I’m going to continue inundating you with more music and some of their music videos and whatnot…they have some really great performance pieces floating around out there.
