I’m only listening to Fiona Apple today to get through this article, so here’s her cover of Conway Twitty’s “It’s Only Make Believe.” Her voice!!!

Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra - Polly (Nirvana)

Kickass Cover of the Day: Calling themselves Bon Joviver, the guys from Miracles of Modern Science give Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” a good Bon Iver-esque sendup.

Very neat cover of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” using only vocals and … yogurt containers?

I adore this.  Use of kitchen-related objects as instruments always makes me think of Crap Machine and the wondrous things that could have been if only we’d had talent and/or initiative.

this. is. beautiful.

NSFW (from the perspective of a truck stop hooker). I’m so glad this exists! I saw her perform this recently at a ninja-gig, and second time around I still feel uncomfortable for laughing.

OHHHH SHIT THIS VERSION IS AMAZING.

Liking this song so much makes me feel all weird inside, given what it’s about

Video

So about 45 minutes before it happened, I noticed that Amanda Palmer had announced a ninja-gig at Wesleyan College (of which she is an alumna) which is about a half hour drive from me, and all I was doing was studying, so I threw on some decent clothes, got in the car, and drove over there.  And I regret none of it.  Above is a video I took of her covering Neutral Milk Hotel’s Two-Headed Boy on ukelele.

Wesleyan looks likes a really cool place and I’ll need to keep my eyes open for more events happening there…it reminded me of a really small Miami University that had been overrun with Western kids.

I also realized on my way home that this was my 10th time seeing her perform live, which is probably starting to border on the ridiculous, but oh well. She puts so much energy and passion into her performances, I just can’t get enough.

Lily Allen, “Womanizer”

Everyone remembers this, right? So great.

Yes, we do, because it’s better than the original.  Also, because I’m a little bit in love with Lily Allen.

Anya Marina - Whatever You Like (T.I cover)

I really love Anya Marina and no matter how many times I hear this song it gives me pause…does the prettiness win, or does the ridiculousness win?  Either way, it’s an awesome cover.

Portland Cello Project Covering Kanye West “All of the Lights”

I’ve been following PCP for a while now, and finally saw them live several months ago when they toured with Thao Nguyen and they were really incredible.  I highly recommend checking them out.
